Perez Enoc

Enoc Perez, born in 1967 in Puerto Rico, is a distinguished contemporary artist celebrated for his captivating paintings of architectural monuments. Growing up as the son of an art critic, Perez’s childhood was steeped in art and culture. His family vacations were often spent visiting art museums and immersing themselves in art history, laying the foundation for his future artistic endeavors.

In his youth, Perez moved to New York, where he drew inspiration from the vibrant art scene, particularly the silkscreen works of Andy Warhol. He pursued his passion for art academically, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Perez further honed his craft by obtaining a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Fine Arts from Hunter College in New York, NY.

Perez’s artistry is driven by a desire to convey pleasure and beauty through his works. He views the buildings he paints as metaphors, often referring to his paintings as “portraits.” His unique painting process—where the brush rarely touches the canvas, akin to printmaking—sets him apart. While architectural monuments are his primary subjects, Perez also explores other themes such as nudes, still lifes, and cityscapes.

One of Perez’s most iconic pieces is “Lever House” (2010), originally an oil on canvas that has been reproduced as a seven-screen silk screen. This work was prominently displayed in the lobby of the actual Lever House in New York City. Another well-known series, “New York” (2006), features stark rooms adorned with paintings of famous New York buildings, creating a unique “painting within a painting” effect. This series was highly praised for its innovative blend of art and architecture.

Perez’s recent collection, “Nudes” (2011), exhibited in London, received positive reviews, further cementing his reputation as a versatile and talented artist.

Perez is represented by Mitchell-Innes & Nash in New York and Faggionato Fine Arts in London. His work has been showcased in numerous exhibitions across Europe and New York, earning acclaim from critics and art enthusiasts alike. Prestigious publications such as The New York Times, Art in America, and Interview Magazine have reviewed his work, highlighting his significant contributions to contemporary art.

Perez’s art is part of several esteemed permanent collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Juan, Puerto Rico, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami, FL. His work continues to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide, reflecting his profound impact on the art world.
